Shoe Pub- Exton

After a balmy Summers day friend suggested we drive out to a nice country pub for an evening drink, the venue of choice this time the Shoe Pub Exton.

They Say:

The Shoe is located in the heart of the Meon Valley, along the picturesque South Down’s Way.  We pride ourselves on the Pub’s relaxing atmosphere, beautiful location and excellent food that we source from local suppliers.

Our food

Using only the best fresh produce (local when available), we create our own unique blend of traditional and innovative dishes, which changes through the seasons.

All our food is prepared freshly each day with great emphasis on the combination of flavours, textures and presentation.

Fish features prominently on our menus as does Game when in season. We also have vegetarian and vegan dishes and coeliacs are well catered for. We also provide a take away fish and chips service.

I Say:

Firstly even before we get to the venue, I have to say the drive out there was breathtaking. Rolling  country roads, wide open views over the Meon Valley as the mist was rolling and the sun was setting with a gorgeous peach blush. Wonderfully relaxing and really feeling like you are being transported away from the hustle and bustle of the city and into Hampshire’s rolling countryside.

Exton itself is a wonderful quaint village with The Shoe being the heart of it. There is a good range of parking which is always the good sign of a busy quality pub.

The interior is as wonderful as any traditional country pub and the staff friendly and welcoming. I wasn’t there for dinner but my friends got there just in time for fish and chips which looked wonderful, served of course with chips and mushy peas!

The pub is dog friendly and the tables are well spaced so you can chat and feel comfortable without feeling cramped but it still kept that warm cosy quaint feel.

Looking at the menu it is small but good, even the vegetarian option looked delicious. The menu isn’t cheap but it’s not a chain restaurant so I can understand that. The cater for a lot of dietary requirements which is great and the range of homemade ice cream and sorbet is mouth-watering, a place to come after a long summer walk! For me a definate come again escape to the country.
