Is it bread is it a scone? – No it’s Herby Wholemeal Triangles

Can I say I love this concoction, it’s not bread it’s not a scone, it needs no proving, you can whip it up in less than half an hour and put everything in it! Best eaten on their own or with a salad or soup on the same day of baking.

Optional fillings:

Onion, Cheese, Sundried tomatos, olives, ham, bacon, seeds the list goes onflour_oil_herbs

Ingredients:

8oz Wholemeal Flour
4oz Strong while flour
pinch salt
1/2 tsp bicarb of soda
1 tbsp mixed herbs (I tend to use sage and rosemary)
1 tsp cream of tartar
3 fresh chillies finely chopped (or powder if you’re lacking)
1.5oz Margarine
0.5oz cream cheese spread
250ml skimmed milk

– Heat the oven to 200 degrees (gas 6)

– Mix all the flour together and sift in the salt, bicarb, cream of tartar,  and the add the herbs and chillies

– Rub in the butter and cream cheese till it resembles fine breadcrumbs

– Add the milk in 3 parts and mix to a soft dough Turn out onto a floured surface and knead very briefly, otherwise the dough becomes poor quality

– shape the dough into a round and slice into 8 wedges place on a baking sheet separated slightly and back for around 20 mins until golden brown and hollow if you tap the bottom

– Leave to cool slightly before serving
